ACOKANTHERA SPECTABILIS

Acokanthera spectabilis is a member of the Apocynaceae family and is a native of South Africa.
It belongs to the same family as many popular subtropical ornamental plants Frangipani, Allamanda and Oleander. This family is characterized by having sweetly scented flowers and sticky, milky sap which is very poisonous.
The Bushman’s poison is a drought hardy, frost resistant and is an evergreen shrub that prefers shade but tolerates full sun and also does well as a container plant.
It is a fragrant ornamental shrub that grows 2-3m tall with flowers that are white and tubular, densely clustered in leaf axils and are 1.4-2cm long with five spreading star-shaped lobes.
