JAPANESE YEW
Podocarpus macrophyllus is a member of the Podocarpaceae family and is native to Japan and Southern China.
It is a slow growing evergreen shrub that grows naturally into a conical / dome shape.
It is often used as a topiary, hedge or screening plant with great effect.
It is very tolerant of poor soils, but need good drainage when in this type of soil.
It grows in full sun or shade equally. It grows to around 7 metres with a spread of 4 metres.
Leaves will turn an unattractive shade of yellow if grown in highly alkaline soils; high nitrogen based fertilizer is recommended for this ailment.
The foliage and parts of the berries are toxic.
