Description
HOYA PUBICALYX
PURPLE HYBRID IML 0049
Hoya pubicalyx purple hybrid is a member of the Asclepiadaceae family and is a native of the Philippines.
‘Purple Hybrid” has dark purple flowers with a darker corona with up to 30 individual flowers in each umbel, mostly appearing in spring also spot flowering at other times. The leaves are long and silver flecked.
Most Hoya are well suited to hanging baskets or ladders and can be grown indoors under pot culture in a warm position but flowering is sometimes difficult.
Dig the hole twice the size of the pot and plant level with the surrounding soil. Mounding can help with wetter soils. The vine will enjoy most soil types but prefers well drained gravelly soils, moist but not wet, warm but frost free above 4 degrees C. Mulch well to conserve water.
Prune after flowering but don’t cut off flower buds as flowers appear each year on the same bud. Fertilise during growing period and withdraw water in the colder months.
