Description
SOLANDRA MAXIMA
GOLDEN CHALICE VINE
The Solandra maxima is a member of the Solanaceae family and is a native of Mexico, Central America and Northern South America.
It can grow up to around 15 metres if allowed to climber on trees, shrubs or trellises. I have successfully kept my plant as a shrub of around 1.5 metres.
The vine is evergreen and the flowers are spectacular and are shaped like a chalice opening to around 150mm and each petal has purplish ridges on the inside. The flowers open yellow and fade to a rich golden colour. The flowers are fragrant with a coconut fragrance and more so at night.
It is fast growing and can be grown in most soils in part sun or full sun and salt tolerant.
ENJOY THIS MAGNIFICENT VINE!
