BOSTON IVY
Parthenocissus tricuspidata veitchii is a hardy climber that climbs by sucker pads. It heralds from England and is fast growing and can reach a height of 18 metres or is useful as a ground cover. It is very hardy and is very frost hardy.
Boston Ivy flowers are insignificant and produces berries from the flowers that can be germinated but germination is variable.
It can be grown in a wide range of soils but prefers well drained moisture retentive soils. It will grow in full sun, dappled shade to full shade and as a groundcover will out compete the weeds.
Plants are very tolerant of pruning and can be cut right back to within 1 metre of the base if required to rejuvenate the plant this should be done in spring. Space plantings at about 2.5 – 3 metres.
This climber gives a great colour show with leaves fading from green to shades through to crimson in the autumn.
