AKEBIA LONGIRASCIMOSA x TRIFOLIATA
CHOCOLATE VINE
Akebia longirascimosa x trifoliata is a hybrid between the 2 named parents.
It has very large fruit and produces a lot of fruit and is a rare plant that is a new release for our nursery.
The flowers are darker purple than the other Akebia varieties and the fruit is said to be edible and the taste is not unlike custard apple.
The flowers have both male and female flowers and hang in racemes not unlike Wisteria flowers in the way they hang and appear in spring and spot flower at other times with a light fragrance.
This Akebia is more suited to tropical conditions and forms a nice ground cover as an added bonus.
The leaves also have a slight variegation.
