Description
HOYA PUBICALYX IML 0268 cv.
RED BUTTONS
Hoya ‘Red Buttons’ is a pubicalyx hybrid and originates from the Philippines.
This Hoya has really beautiful flowers. The flowers can be almost ‘blackish’ through to purple with red coronas. In the same plant you might see clusters of flowers that are all pink. Some clusters even have a mix of pink and purple! The flowers have a strong, sweet fragrance and last about two weeks. It blooms in the spring. The leaves have slight to a large numbers of speckles. Some leaves get red spots when young and some are completely red. This Hoya is not offered for sale often.
Most Hoya are well suited to hanging baskets or ladders and can be grown indoors under pot culture in a warm position but flowering is sometimes difficult.
Dig the hole twice the size of the pot and plant level with the surrounding soil. Mounding can help with wetter soils. The vine will enjoy most soil types but prefers well drained gravelly soils, moist but not wet, warm but frost free above 4 degrees C. Mulch well to conserve water.
Prune after flowering but don’t cut off flower buds as flowers appear each year on the same bud. Fertilise during growing period and withdraw water in the colder months.
REWARD: SIT BACK AND ENJOY!
