Description
STROPHANTHUS GRATIS
CLIMBING OLEANDER or ROSE ALLAMANDA
Strophanthus gratus is a member of the Apocynaceae family and is native to western and central Africa.
The flowers are white with a pink blush and 50 mm across and have a pink corona with a fragrance that is delightful.
I have seen this plant as a shrub 3 metres x 3 metres covered in flowers or it will climb with some support. The foliage is strong and deep green.
The flowers start to appear mid-spring and into mid-summer. For best growth and flowers it needs to be in full sun or part shade in well drained moisture retentive soil.
It is hardy down to – 2 degrees C. Most parts of the plant are toxic however some parts are used in medicine for heart and blood pressure medication.
YOU WILL LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL PLANT!
